Emergency Contraception

Emergency Contraception

Emergency Hormonal Contraception, also known as the morning after pill, is available to purchase, without a prescription, at all of our pharmacies.

A number of our pharmacies are also able to make supplies free of charge, under local services. The availability and eligibility of these services varies from area to area.

Emergency Hormonal Contraception is most effective the earlier it is taken but can be taken up to 72 hours or 120 hours after unprotected intercourse, depending on the tablet recommended.

Our pharmacist will speak to patients in the private consultation area to find out the information necessary to make appropriate recommendations. If our pharmacist is not able to help a patient, referrals will be made to their GP or a Family Planning Clinic. For more information, see https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/contraception/emergency-contraception/
