Ear Wax Removal Service

At Peak Pharmacy, we now offer a comprehensive Earwax Removal Service that includes earwax removal and hearing loss screening.

While it is commonplace to manage your ears with over-the-counter treatments  or at-home earwax removal kits, the safest and most effective way to look after your ear health is to undergo a private earwax removal treatment carried out by trained professionals.

Why Your Hearing Health Matters

“1 in 5 adults in the UK are affected by hearing loss”

Royal National Institute for Deaf People

While most of us will regularly undertake routine health check-ups – such as GP physicals or trips to the dentist – most people do not consider their ear health as something to monitor!

When you think of hearing problems, you may automatically think of the elderly, however ear and hearing health matters to every single one of us – young and old!

Hearing loss can have dramatic consequences on your quality of life, leading to struggles at work or in social situations. That is why it is important to ensure that you monitor your ears and hearing for any noticeable changes.

Signs To Look Out For

“In the UK, it is estimated that 2.3 million people each year have problems with earwax sufficient to need intervention.”

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence

When it comes to ear and hearing problems, there are a few key indicators to look out for!

The following symptoms could indicate that there has been a change in your ears:

  • Asking people to repeat themselves
  • Turning up the volume
  • Dizziness
  • Itching
  • Ears feeling full
  • Discomfort
  • Loss of hearing
  • Earache
  • Discharge
  • Ringing
  • Loss of balance
  • Coughing
  • Moving closer to those talking
  • Concentrating harder than normal to listen

Diagnosis and Treatment

We use the Tympa system, which is the world’s first all-in-one ear and hearing healthcare assessment device – comprised of three different diagnostic and treatment systems.

During your first appointment, we can perform a range of services including high-definition digital otoscopy, microsuction wax removal, and a full hearing screening. However, depending on the extent of your needs, it’s possible that further appointments may be necessary to fully address any issues and ensure optimal hearing health.

How Is Earwax Removed?

If it is decided that you need to proceed with the earwax removal treatment, our trained clinician will use the Tympa system to perform a digital otoscopy where the suction device will be placed into your ear and the wax removed in a safe manner.

The Tympa system is a powerful tool for removing excessive earwax build-ups, even the most stubborn ones. While we have seen many successful outcomes from this treatment, it’s important to note that everyone’s earwax situation is unique, and therefore results may vary. Our experienced team will work closely with you to find the best possible treatment plan and support you throughout the process to help you achieve optimal ear health.

Find A Pharmacy

While we will try and accommodate walk-ins if possible, we would always recommend you contact the pharmacy and book in advance to avoid disappointment.

When you arrive for your appointment at Peak Pharmacy your ears will be assessed and, if earwax is present, you will undergo the gold standard Microsuction procedure – which is considered much safer than other methods of ear irrigation!

Once the wax has been removed, we will perform a hearing screening to identify whether you have a level of hearing loss. If the results conclude that you do have hearing loss, you may be referred to an audiologist for further investigation. However, in many cases, the initial problem could be simply down to the presence of wax itself.

Additional/Important: You may be asked to use an Olive oil-based ear cleaning solution for up to 7 days before your scheduled appointment. Products such as Earol Olive Oil Ear Spray and others can be purchased at your local Peak Pharmacy. Please speak to a member of the team about this when making your appointment.

How Much Does Earwax Removal Cost?
