About Wegovy Oral Pill:
Wegovy Oral Pill is a prescription-only weight management treatment, containing semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist that works by mimicking a naturally occurring hormone involved in appetite regulation and food intake control. By helping you feel fuller for longer and reducing hunger signals, Oral Wegovy may support sustained weight loss when combined with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
Wegovy Oral Pill is supplied in a blister pack containing 30 tablets.

Ongoing Support:
Weight management treatment is a journey, and ongoing support is an important part of care. Your pharmacy team will be available to provide guidance, answer questions, and monitor your progress throughout treatment.
How do Wegovy Oral Pills work?
Wegovy Oral Pills work the same way as Wegovy injections!
The Wegovy Oral Pill contains semaglutide, which, among other things, acts on areas of the brain involved in appetite regulation. This helps reduce hunger and cravings, supporting healthier eating patterns and long-term weight management as part of a medically supervised programme.
The key difference between Wegovy injections and Wegovy tablets is how the medicine is absorbed into the body. With injections, semaglutide is delivered under the skin and absorbed directly into the bloodstream. With tablets, it is taken orally and absorbed through the digestive system.
How To Use Wegovy Oral Pill:
Wegovy Oral is taken once daily in the morning.
For best results:
- Take one tablet every morning
- Take it at least 30 minutes before breakfast
- Swallow with approximately half a glass of water
- Avoid eating, drinking, or taking other oral medicines during the 30-minute window unless advised by your healthcare professional
Always follow the guidance provided by your prescribing Peak Pharmacy Clinician.
Dosing Schedule:
Treatment is started at a low dose and gradually increased to help your body adjust:
- Days 1–30: 1.5 mg once daily
- Days 31–60: 4 mg once daily
- Days 61–90: 9 mg once daily
- Day 91 onwards (maintenance): 25 mg once daily

Frequently Asked Questions:
When will oral Wegovy be available?
Wegovy has been authorised by the MHRA (British Medical Regulators) in early June. The manufacturers are currently preparing for the product launch, and we are hoping that the Wegovy Pill will be available in early July.
How effective is the Wegovy pill compared to the Wegovy injections?
Both medications contain the same active ingredient - Semaglutide. Average weight loss on the 2.4mg strength injection suggests average weight loss of around 15%, and this is similar for the full strength of the oral pill. The newly licensed strength of the Wegovy injection 7.2mg is more effective than that of up to 20%.
How effective is the Wegovy pill compared to Orlistat?
Studies suggest that for most people, the Wegovy pill will be more effective than Orlistat. Studies suggest people taking Orlistat can expect to lose between 5-10% of their weight compared to around 15% with oral Wegovy.
