What is Diarrhoea?

Well, diarrhoea is the passage of three or more loose or liquid stools per day (or more frequently than is normal for the individual). Other symptoms can be present as well which include cramps, fever, nausea/vomiting and headaches.

Acute diarrhoea should last less than 14 days. Diarrhoea in Adults that lasts longer than 14 days or any Diarrhoea that has blood or pus present should be investigated by a doctor.

How To Use:

Short-Term Diarrhoea:

Adults and Children aged 12 and over: Take 2 tablets to start treatment. Take 1 tablet after each loose bowel movement.

DO NOT take for attacks lasting longer than 48 hours.

DO NOT take more than 6 tablets in a 24-hour period.

IBS Diarrhoea (previously diagnosed):

Adults and Young people aged 18 years and over: Take 2 tablets to start treatment. Take 1 tablet after each loose bowel movement (or as advised by your doctor).

You can use this medicine for up to 2 weeks for repeated attacks, but do not take for any one attack lasting longer than 48 hours.

DO NOT take more than 6 tablets in a 24-hour period.

Ingredients:

Each tablet contains Loperamide 2mg which is the active ingredient that helps stop your diarrhoea.

Who Should Not Use Imodium Instants?

Do not take this medicine IF:

  • You have ever had a bad reaction to any of the ingredients.
  • It is for a child aged under 12 (or under 18 for an IBS patient).
  • You have severe diarrhoea after taking antibiotics.
  • You are having a flare-up of an inflammatory bowel condition like ulcerative colitis.
  • You are constipated, or your stomach appears swollen (especially in children with severe dehydration).
  • You have acute dysentery, the symptoms of which may include blood in your stools and a high temperature.

Side Effects:

Common side effects that occur in patients who use Imodium include:

  • Headache
  • Constipation
  • Nausea
  • Flatulence

Driving and Using Machinery

This medicine may make you feel dizzy, tired or sleepy. You may feel less alert, feel faint or pass out. If you’re affected do not drive or use machines.

Can I Use Imodium Instants If I Am Pregnant or Breastfeeding?

If you are pregnant, think you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

If you are breastfeeding DO NOT take this medicine. Small amounts may get into your milk. Talk to your doctor about a suitable treatment.
