What causes a chesty cough?
A chesty cough is normally caused by a virus such as cold and flu. When your cough becomes chesty this means mucus becomes trapped in your throat, nose and sinuses this is what causes your body to cough to try and clear the mucus.
Symptoms associated with catarrh also known as mucus.
- Constant need to clear your throat.
- Feeling that your throat is blocked.
- Blocked or stuffy nose that you cannot clear.
- Runny nose.
- Feeling of mucus running down the back of your throat.
- Persistent cough.
Can this be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding it is not advised for you to use this medicine.

Who is this suitable for?
Anyone over the age of 5 who is suffering with a chesty cough or sore throat.
How To Use:
Oral use only.
Children age 5-12 years: Take one 5ml spoonful every 4 hours if required.
Adults, the elderly and children over 12 years: Take one or two 5ml spoonfuls every 4 hours if required.
Who is this not suitable for?
Do not use this medicine if you or your child have:
- An allergy to any of the ingredients listed below.
- Any type of heart complaint.
- Are an alcoholic.
- Heave breathing difficulties.
- Have heart, liver or kidney problems.
Contains:
Peppermint oil, anise oil, capsicum tincture (capsicum oleoresin, ethanol), syrup (sucrose), liquid glucose, magnesium aluminium silicate, sodium methyl, ethyl and propyl Parahydroxybenzoates (E215, E219), glycerol (E422), caramel (E150c), purified water.
Side effects:
Like all medicines Covonia can have side effects, although these don’t affect everyone.
Possible side effects are:
- Allergic reaction.
- Higher sodium salt and water levels within the body.
- Low blood potassium levels within the body.
Warning:
Do not give to children under the age of 5.
Do not take more medicine than the stated dose.
