What Is A Mucus Cough?
A mucus cough, sometimes called a chesty cough is caused by mucus and phlegm, often originating in your sinuses clogging up your airways and lungs. Naturally your body reacts and tries to remove this mucus by triggering a cough. Whilst this cough is perfectly normal and appropriate sometimes the cough persists even though the mucus has gone or may need a helping hand.
A mucus cough may be a sign of infection so it is always advised to keep an eye on the colour of the mucus once you have coughed this up. Typically yellow/green coloured mucus could be the sign of an infection, so if you feel unwell and have productive yellow / green mucus please speak with your GP.
