Product Description

Atovaquone/Proguanil, more commonly known as generic Malarone is licenced for the prevention of malaria infections in patients travelling to areas of the world where malaria is a problem. Generic drugs like this one are licenced copies of the original brand. Common examples of generics include Ibuprofen -> Nurofen and Paracetamol -> Panadol.

Malaria is typically found in and around the tropics and includes the regions of South America, parts of Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. The burden of malaria is greatest in Africa, but recent developments give hope to the populations who live with this disease.

The combination of Atovaquone and Proguanil is known to be the most effective antimalarial available in the UK, but no anti-malaria medicine is 100% effective. Bite avoidance is the most important line of defence, so you should avoid insect bites by using an appropriate insect repellent.
