How does Mounjaro work?
Mounjaro activates the actions of 2 natural substances in your body, called glucose-dependent insulinotrophic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). This then slows down your stomach emptying making you feel fuller for longer. Mounjaro also regulates fat utilisation for energy.
Directions:
Mounjaro should be injected ONCE weekly. Mounjaro is injected under the skin (subcutaneous injection) of your stomach area (abdomen) or upper leg (thigh) or upper arm. It should be used only alongside a balanced diet which is rich in fruit and vegetables with no more than 30% of your calories coming from fat. It is most effective when used in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle and dietary change like increased exercise and a commitment to drinking at least 6-8 glasses of water daily.
The starting dose for Mounjaro is 2.5mg. If tolerated it is advised to increase the dose every four weeks. The dose can be maintained at 5mg, 10mg or 15mg. Your trained Healthcare professional at Peak Pharmacy will advise you about your dosage regime.
Injecting medications can seem challenging to people who have not done this before. The Mounjaro Kwikpen is designed to be easy for patients to use. Each Mounjaro® pack consists of 1 pre-filled Mounjaro Kwikpen® pen which contains 4 of your prescribed doses of Mounjaro®, to be used once a week for 4 weeks and the Patient Information Leaflet. You will also be supplied with 5 disposable needles, alcohol swabs and a sharps bin for safe disposal of the needles.
How to use Mounjaro Kwikpen:
Your Peak Pharmacy Health care Professional will go through the steps with you on how to use the Kwikpen. You will also be given a brochure which has a step-by-step guide.
